While working in the field, it's common for the CHI App to refuse to log in, fail to sync data, hang, or lose location tracking. Interestingly, most of these problems clear up simply by restarting the tablet. Here's why that actually works.
Alongside the CHI App, several other apps and background services keep running on the tablet at the same time. Over time this fills up the tablet's RAM, making the app slow down or stop responding altogether. Restarting clears all that temporary memory, letting the app run fresh again.
The longer an app stays running, the more its cache fills up or gets corrupted, which is what causes trouble with logging in and syncing data. A restart resets the cache and temporary files, and the problem usually resolves on its own.
Mobile data, Wi-Fi, or the GPS signal can sometimes get stuck mid-way. Restarting reconnects all of these, which fixes both sync and location issues at once.
The CHI App runs several tasks in the background at once — saving data, syncing, and updating location. Occasionally these processes get tangled up and hang. Restarting shuts all of them down and starts everything fresh.
This isn't unusual — it's especially common on low-memory or older Android tablets, and the same behavior shows up in most government apps, including HISDU.
Restarting the tablet essentially clears out temporary glitches. It isn't a permanent fix, but it's extremely useful for keeping work moving in the field. Making it a habit to restart the tablet before starting the day's work and again after finishing can clear up a lot of small problems on its own.
